Ireland lose 21-15 to the Russian Federation in the quarter-finals of the women's 3x3 basketball event at the European Games.

Ireland have been knocked out of the women's 3x3 basketball tournament in the quarter-finals at the European Games in Baku, losing 21-15 to the Russian Federation.

The two sides were closely matched through the opening three minutes of the contest, sharing three points each in the early stages of the game.

The Russian side soon started to dominate though, with Tatiana Vidmer and Mariia Cherepanova putting them three points ahead.

Niamh Dwyer got Ireland back on level terms, but Anna Leshkovtseva came off the bench to make a string of shots, putting Russia six points up.

Orla O'Reilly tried to get Ireland back into the tie late on, but the Irish girls ran out of time, leaving Russia to face Spain in the semi-finals tomorrow.
