Eric Hosmer and the Kansas City Royals finally agree two-year contract

First baseman Eric Hosmer agrees a new £9m two-year contract with the Kansas City Royals.

Eric Hosmer and the Kansas City Royals have avoided arbitration after they finally agreed to a £9m contract, after months of negotiations.

The first baseman was in fine form last season as he won his second straight golden glove, and he felt that his performances deserved a new contract, and a pay rise, as a result.

Hosmer asked for £4.3m a year, an increase from his previous £2.2m, but the Royals didn't agree and offered £2.9m instead.

However, with the threat of a hearing increasing, both parties agreed to a two-year deal which will see Hosmer earn £3.6m in 2015 and £5.3m the following year.

The Royals have not been involved in a hearing since 2006.
