Result: Team GB's Jack Green out of men's 400m hurdles

Great Britain's Jack Green fails to qualify for the men's 400m hurdles final at the Olympic Games but Ireland's Thomas Barr is a surprise winner of a third semi-final.

Great Britain's Jack Green has finished in last place in his men's 400m hurdles semi-final at the Olympic Games.

Green had been handed a favourable draw in lane four but he struggled to keep pace with the runners around him and could only finish eighth in a time of 49.54s.

However, Ireland will have a representative in Thursday's final after Thomas Barr produced the performance of his career to win the third semi-final.

Barr's previous best performance at a major competition came when making the semis of the 2014 European Championship but he powered from fourth to first down the home straight to win his heat in 48.39s.
