Team GB sprinters Desiree Henry and Asha Philip have failed to qualify for the final of the women's 100m race at the Rio Olympics.

Henry put in an impressive performance with a time of 11.09s but it was not enough to reach the last eight as she was outmanoeuvred by Jamaica's Elaine Thompson (10.88s) and Team USA's English Gardner (10.90s).

Meanwhile, Philip finished last in her semi-final with a time of 11.33s, almost half a second slower than defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.88s), who crossed the line in first place.

An extremely tight field saw Dafne Schippers (10.90s), Tori Bowie (10.90s), Michelle-Lee Ahye (10.90s), Marie-Josee Ta Lou (10.94s) and Christania Williams (10.96s) also qualify for the final.

The final race takes place tonight at 10.37pm local time (2.37am UK).
