The world indoor champion produced a best leap of 1.96 metres in the high jump.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson moved into top spot after the second event of the European Indoors pentathlon after setting a championship-best mark in the high jump.

Johnson-Thompson jumped 1.96 metres at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow to move above France's hurdles specialist Solene Ndama.

World indoor champion Johnson-Thompson had earlier equalled her season's best with 8.27 seconds in the 60m hurdles.

Johnson-Thompson is the favourite for gold in the absence of Belgian Olympic champion Nafi Thiam.

Great Britain's world junior heptathlon champion Niamh Emerson, who won bronze behind Johnson-Thompson at the Commonwealth Games last year, was third after the opening two events.

She set a new personal best of 8.54secs in the hurdles and equalled her personal best of 1.87m in the long jump.

Robbie Fitzgibbon and Neil Gourley qualified for the 1500m final but fellow Briton Elliot Giles just missed out. Former European champion Filip Ingebrigtsen was disqualified for stepping outside the track, while his brother, Jakob, was the fastest qualifier.

Britons Owen Smith and Cameron Chalmers qualified for the 400m semi-finals in eighth and ninth place respectively, while Adelle Tracey finished second overall in the heats for the 800m after trailing Swiss Selina Buchel in her heat. Briton's Mari Smith also reached the semi-finals.

Feron Sayers missed out on the men's long jump final after finishing in ninth place with a best jump of 7.57m.
