Touchdowns from Danny Woodhead and Jason Verrett put the San Diego Chargers in front by nine points at the break in their NFL clash against the Chicago Bears.

The San Diego Chargers have taken a nine-point lead into the half in their NFL clash against the Chicago Bears at Qualcomm Stadium.

The Bears could have taken the lead when Jay Cutler moved his team into field-goal range, but Robbie Gould's effort from 47 yards went wide left of the posts.

San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers made the Bears pay for the miss when he found Danny Woodhead at the back of the endzone for a 14-yard touchdown to take the lead.

The Chargers compounded their advantage when Cutler was intercepted by Jason Verrett, who ran the ball 68 yards to the endzone for the score, although Josh Lambo's extra-point kick was blocked.

Chicago got on the board in the second quarter as Cutler fired two strikes to Alshon Jeffery to get his team in range before he faked a handoff to Jeremy Langford and threw to Martellus Bennett for the touchdown.

A penalty allowed the home side to notch a field goal right before the break when Lambo fired a 31-yarder through the posts to hand Mike McCoy's men a nine-point lead at half time.
