The New England Patriots have extended their unbeaten record to seven games by beating the Miami Dolphins 36-7 at the Gillette Stadium.

The combination of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski delivered the goods early on as the quarterback found his receiver, who benefited from good blocking on the way to completing a 47-yard score.

A miscommunication helped the Patriots in the second quarter when Mike Pouncey snapped the ball before Ryan Tannehill was ready, which resulted in a safety making it 9-0 to the home side.

Stephen Gostkowski extended the lead with a 52-yard field goal, before Brady took charge to find Dion Lewis for another touchdown with 24 seconds remaining in the first half.

After struggling to find a spark on offense in the first half, Tannehill ensured that there was an improvement after the interval as an 80-yard drive ended with Lamar Miller reaching the endzone from a yard out.

Gostkowski then set a new Patriots record by converting from 36 yards to extend his run to 26 successful field goals in a row.

A Miami fightback never appeared to be a possibility as the visiting offense continued to struggle, with Duron Harmon intercepting a Tannehill pass at full stretch, before the Patriots capitalised on the next drive when Brady picked out Julian Edelman, who pulled in a low pass and held off a challenge to dive into the endzone.

It was a familiar story on the next drive as Brady was given the time to find Edelman again, and the wide receiver bounced off two tackles for his sixth touchdown of the season as the Patriots eased to the win.
