Pre-season roundup: New England Patriots defeat Carolina Panthers

Sports Mole rounds up all the latest pre-season action from the NFL.

Tom Brady threw his first touchdown pass since the Super Bowl to guide the New England Patriots to a 17-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers in their pre-season clash.

Brady connected with Scott Chandler for an 18-yard strike in the second quarter before Cam Newton responded with a score to Mike Tolbert.

However, Jimmy Garoppolo guided the Patriots to the win when he found Dion Lewis in the endzone in the fourth quarter.

The Detroit Lions came from behind to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 22-17 at Everbank Field.

Allen Hurns and TJ Yeldon scored touchdowns to put the home side ahead in the second quarter, but Matt Stafford rallied the Lions to a response to tie the game.

The visitors scored nine points in the fourth quarter courtesy of a touchdown run from Zach Zenner and a field goal from Kyle Brindza to win the game.

Alex Smith threw two touchdown passes in the first half to guide the Kansas City Chiefs to a 34-10 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Smith connected with Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce to fire the Chiefs into a 17-0 lead, but the Titans managed to respond before the break with a field goal and an Antonio Andrews score.

The Chiefs added a further 17 points in the second half to cruise to a comfortable victory.

The Buffalo Bills scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to hammer the Pittsburgh Steelers 43-19 in their pre-season clash.

Fred Jackson, Charles Clay and Ricky Seale all found the endzone for the Bills in the first half, but the Steelers kept themselves in the game through scores from Martavis Bryant and DeAngelo Williams.

Rex Ryan's side took charge of the match in the third quarter and added three touchdowns to ease to the win at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The Dallas Cowboys lost their third game in a row in pre-season as they slipped to a 28-14 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, despite two touchdowns strikes from Tony Romo.

Romo found Lucky Whitehead and Terrance Williams in the endzone, but the Vikings edged to victory thanks to second-half scores from Dominique Williams and Joe Banyard.

Ryan Tannehill threw the only touchdown of the match in the Miami Dolphins' narrow 13-9 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Tannehill connected with Rishard Matthews in the second quarter which proved to be the decisive score to hand Joe Philbin's men the win.

The New York Jets secured their second win of pre-season as they defeated the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

Ryan Fitzpatrick threw touchdown passes to Eric Decker and Zac Stacy, while Antonio Cromartie returned an interception off Eli Manning for a 59-yard score to secure the victory for the Jets.

The Cleveland Browns won their first game of their pre-season campaign with a resounding 31-7 triumph over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Travis Benjamin returned a punt 53 yards for a touchdown, while quarterback Josh McCown threw touchdown passes to Brian Hartline and Gary Barnidge to seal the victory for Mike Pettine's men.

The Washington Redskins overcame the Baltimore Ravens courtesy of a 31-13 victory at M & T Bank Stadium.

Joe Flacco put the Ravens ahead in the first half with a strike to Steve Smith, but the Redskins went on to score 31 unanswered points as Colt McCoy threw two touchdown passes and Kirk Cousins connected with Jamison Crowder to complete the victory.

The Cincinnati Bengals won their second game of pre-season by defeating the Chicago Bears 21-10 in their clash.

Marvin Lewis's men scored three touchdowns in the first half from Andy Dalton, Marvin Jones and Jeremy Hill, which proved to be enough to see off the NFC North side.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers in a high-scoring 39-26 contest at Lambeau Field.

Chip Kelly's men scored four touchdowns in the first quarter, with Sam Bradford throwing three touchdown strikes.

The Packers managed to get on the board in the second quarter, but Mark Sanchez threw two touchdowns to guide the Eagles to victory, despite late scores from the home side.

The Seattle Seahawks edged out the San Diego Chargers by one point in their pre-season clash, edging to a 16-15 win.

Tyler Lockett returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown, but Branden Oliver collected a 70-yard pass from Kellen Clemens and Nick Novak kicked a field goal to put the Chargers on the brink of victory. However, Steven Hauschka fired a late kick between the posts to steal the win for the Seahawks.

The Indianapolis Colts notched their first win of pre-season as they beat the St Louis Rams 24-14 at Edward Jones Dome.

Andrew Luck fired a touchdown strike to Andre Johnson to put the Colts ahead, but the home side got back into game through Chris Givens and Trey Watts.

However, Tyler Varga ran in from a yard to hand Chuck Pagano's men the victory.

The Denver Broncos won their third game of pre-season by beating the San Francisco 49ers 19-12 in their clash at Sports Authority.

Both sides exchanged field goals for the majority of the contest before Juwan Thompson found the endzone in the fourth quarter to hand the Broncos the win.

The Houston Texans eased to victory over the New Orleans Saints to earn their second win of pre-season.

Alfred Blue ran in for a touchdown in the first quarter and Tom Savage and Ryan Mallett threw for scores to put the visitors beyond the reach of Sean Payton's men, despite a 45-yard run from Edwin Baker at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The Arizona Cardinals staged a second-half comeback to defeat the Oakland Raiders 30-23 in their pre-season clash.

Sebastian Janikowski kicked five field goals in the first two quarters to fire the Raiders into a 15-3 lead. However, the Cardinals scored four touchdowns in the second half, including touchdown passes from Philip Sims and Drew Stanton to secure the win.
