Joe Montana: 'I would have considered deflating footballs'

Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana admits that he would have thought about deflating footballs if it would have improved his game during wet conditions.

Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana has confessed that he would have considered deflating footballs during his career had he known it would have improved his game.

New England Patriots' Tom Brady was banned for four matches by the NFL for being generally aware that members of his side's equipment staff had deflated footballs in their AFC championship win over the Indianapolis Colts.

The four-time Super Bowl champion has conceded that he would have thought about deflating balls himself if he had known it would improve his accuracy when throwing in wet conditions.

"I wish I'd known [it could make a difference] because I couldn't throw a wet ball to save my life," Montana told Trib Total Media. "Heck, I would've thought about [deflating the ball], sure."

Brady has appealed his ban by the NFL, which will be heard by commissioner Roger Goodell on June 23.
